For over a millennium, the Roma people have been a vital component of European Civilization. Romany individuals constitute the largest ethnic minority in Europe, numbering approximately 12 million and predominantly residing in Eastern Europe, where they frequently face severe poverty, discrimination, and segregation. The challenging circumstances in their countries of origin have been identified as a primary motivator for Roma individuals to migrate to the United Kingdom in pursuit of an improved standard of living, as reported by The Independent.​​​​

In 1971 Orpington, (United Kingdom) a First World Romani Congress was arranged by Grattan Puxon in order to discuss the Roma culture and background. At the Congress, it was confirmed what the Romani Flag would look like, what the Romani Anthem would be and how should Roma people be addressed as; (Roma, Romani, Romovia).

In 1978 Geneva, (Switzerland) a second World Romani Congress was organised where Jan Cibula was Elected as the Chairman of the Congress. Furthermore, at this Congress, the International Roma Union (IRU) has been established.

In 1981 Göttingen, (Germany) the Third World Romani Congress was organised where it was established that the Romani people have roots in India and that Roma people are originally from India.

In 1990 Serock, (Poland) the fourth World Romani Congress was arranged where it was established that 8th April is going to be the "International Roma Day". DAVREN Community Solutions takes pride in celebrating cultural diversity. International Roma Day,  became known in the UK in 2013. Many countries all over Europe as well as the United Kingdom organise activities and events to celebrate this day and promote the ROMA Colture and Heritage.
